A Step on your Pilgrimage: 08\17\2011

Pondering a next step.

While this might be a cheap and easy tactic to generate interest in the site (i.e. traffic) I have decided to post a link to an article or group which serves to offer inspirational advice on how to continue your pilgrimage through life. Today’s link is brought to you by Outside magazine.

Have you ever thought your present career choice was a far fall from anything that resembled your dream job? Some people long to escape the cube and\or office. This piece offers some examples of people who refused to let fear and uncertainty block their path. Let me know where you see yourself going and if anything within the piece was a catalyst for change.

HOW I DID IT: CAREER SWITCHING CASE STUDIES

Do Not Waste the Opportunity: Boxtops

Boxtops4Education is an easy way to help your local schools. This effort serves to allow schools to obtain resources through basic consumer purchases. It may not be a component of your decision as you go to and from the local grocer or other establishment but if deciding between two items why not purchase the one that can give beyond the purchase itself?

And what if you are already buying items with boxtops: why would you throw them away?

I would like to offer my services to you. If you live in the Jacksonville area I will pick them up. Simply cut them off the product package and store them in a convenient place. Monthly or bi-monthly I will swing buy and take them off your hands.

Live out of state? Mail them to me once a month and I will refund your postage?

It might require a small behavioral change being that packages will need to be inspected prior to tossing them (and they are going in the recycle bin if appropriate, right?) but once you become accustomed to it  you will do it without thinking.

Contact me with any questions and pass along this offer. It is such an easy way to improve the life of children and hopefully play a role in building a better educational system.

Facebook for the Common Good

...And everything feels good for a while.

I want to recognize my friend Liza Van Arsdale-Mitchell for her recent utilization of Facebook to promote goodness. She posted the following:

Special request to kids returning to school in the next few days: If you see someone who is struggling to make friends or being bullied because he/she doesn’t have many friends, because they are shy or not as pretty or not dressed in the most “in” clothes – PLEASE step up. Say hi or at least smile at them in the hallway. You never know what that person might be facing outside of school. Your kindness might just make a BIG difference in someone’s life!

While I am not so old that I do not recall the uncomfortable nature of adolescence and the strong desire to fit in, I also recall moments in which I decided to go against the grain and simply do something because it was good and right. But for the grace of (G)od my children or your children will find acceptance within a group that promotes success and unity.
